There is always something you can do...
ChristNet March 13-20, 2011
There are many way you can serve God. APPC ChristNet Coordinator: Kerri VanWallaghen
How Can You Help?
Volunteer to be a “late-night” volunteer. This is undoubtedly the hardest shift to fill for obvious reasons. Sign up on the Mission Matters Bulletin Board in the hallway near the church office.
Donate FOOD. The Mission Matters Bulletin Board is filled with “food choices” that need to be purchased and delivered to the church. All food items should be brought to the Fellowship Hall basement kitchen on Sunday, March 9th between 9 and 11 a.m.
Donations of clean, new socks and underwear (men and women) and heavy clothing (can be gently-used or new) are needed.
The mission of ChristNet is to provide temporary overnight emergency housing assistance and other services to homeless men, women, and children. We do this by providing a safe secure sleeping space indoors; offering three meals per day; and by maintaining a case manager who identifies and coordinates mainstream resources to help those in need re-stabilize their lives. ChristNet promotes cooperation among churches and non-profit organizations as we strive to assist our brothers and sisters in God’s family.
Gently-Used Clothing Donation Donate any time you are at church using the SPA Box A note from PW Vice-Moderator for Peace and Justice,
Kerri A. VanWallaghen - e-mail: kvan@appc.us At a recent PW Board Meeting, it was brought to my attention that some of the women present did not know about the S.P.A. Clothing Donation Box. If you are also wondering the same thing, please read on. The blue S.P.A. box is located in the hallway near the Cleveland entrance. It is a clothing donation drop-off box. Donations placed in this box are distributed through the S.P.A. program at Mercy Health Care Center by member, Gary Robinson. They will accept all clothing, regardless of season, casual or dress. What is the S.P.A. program? The Specialized Personal Assistance Program is affiliated with the Mercy Primary Care Center of Detroit. The S.P.A. program is designed to provide individuals and their immediate family members with quality donated clothing, as well as providing showers and hygiene kit items. Clothing and toiletries that cannot be utilized at Mercy Health Center will be donated to C.O.T.S., Fort Street Open Door and to women’s shelters. Our Fort Street Open Door program is facilitated by Jane Marchand and Carol Woodward. If you have items specifically earmarked for Open Door, please mark the bag accordingly. So every time you walk past that blue box, whether you add a bag of used clothing that time or not, remember that many of God’s people are being cared for by our donations.
