Christnet Shelter for Homeless
APPC will host ChristNet - March 14-21, 2010
ChristNet was founded in 1992 as an overnight emergency housing program for
the homeless in the downriver area. It is a cooperative ministry of
Downriver churches of differing denominations. All participating churches
seek to share the love of Christ with men, women, and children in need of a
warm meal and a place to sleep. With the continued downturn in our economy,
ChristNet is experiencing an increase in the number of guests, therefore,
many volunteers are needed.
ChristNet prohibits minors from participating in supervisory capacities.
However, minors who wish to lend a hand may sign up, list their age, and we
will find a way for them to serve.
Grief Workshops
These workshops are held periodically. They offer Christian
compassion, prayer, and education to help through life's
most trying times.
GriefShare - Your Journey From Mourning to Joy - It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you've lost a spouse, family member or friend, you've probably found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. That's the reason for for GriefShare, a special seminar and support group for people grieving the loss of someone else. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time. You are welcome to begin attending the GriefShare group at any session. Each is "self-contained" so you do not have to attend in sequence. You will find encouragement and help whenever you begin.
Watch for news on when the next GriefShare will begin.
Group Facilitators: Parish Nurse Chris Mayer and Norma Bentley
If this time is not convenient, the same GriefShare Workshops will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn, 600 N. Brady Road, Dearborn, MI 48124 (313) 274-1313 from to to 8:30 p.m. First Pres of Dearborn serves weekly family-style dinners. If you wish to join them for dinner before your class, please contact their church office.
For more information about GriefShare, you may visit their web site at: www.griefshare.org
Greeters
Greeters are stationed at both main church entrances on
Sunday mornings. They greet people, give directions and
offer information to visitors. This group meets once per
quarter. It is at this meeting that the people involved
may sign up for the Sundays of their choice.
Mission Sewing Group
Our mission sewing group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month
at 9:15 a.m. in Room 1 of the Fellowship Building. This
group is for women who would like to do light, simple sewing,
such as cancer pads. Sewing machines are available for making
layette items for overseas use as well as here in the United
States. Yarn is available for knitting and crocheting, which
you are free to work on at home. Sweaters of all sizes are
needed. Dessert is furnished each month by a different women's
circle. Everyone brings their own sandwich; tea and coffee
is furnished.
